Has Delta Air Lines embraced the MAGA philosophy and gone all in on President Donald Trump’s policy preferences?
President Trump apparently thinks so, and in fact, he recently congratulated the airline for making a big policy change the administration has pushed for since early in the president’s second term.
Despite the president’s praise, Delta Air Lines officials have made it clear they are not quite ready to put on the red hat just yet.
In fact, the airline denied allegations that it embraced President Trump’s proposed changes, despite the fact that it modifed one policy that’s making the president and his supporters very happy.

President Trump praises Delta Air Lines for a MAGA-friendly policy shift
President Trump took to Truth Social to praise Delta’s new move.
The president included a screen grab of what appears to be a “Revision Highlights Airway Manual” on his post, which he claimed came from Delta Air Lines and which appeared to be on the airline’s official letterhead.
The president’s comment that accompanied the screen grab on the Truth Social post stated:
“From a Delta Captain: I thought you would get a kick out of this. Delta’s official memo to employees. Big changes Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. And the liberals thought Notice to Airman was racist to they changed it to Notice to Air Missions. Delta just changed it back to Notice to Airman. I think they are finally embracing MAGA.”
Here is the policy change President Trump is celebrating
There were two supposed changes to Delta Air Line’s policy included in the screen grab that the president shared:
- Revised “Gulf of Mexico” to read “Gulf of America.”
- Revised “Notice to Air Mission” to be “Notice to Airmen.”
The president apparently viewed these changes as a sign that Delta was going MAGA because the first one, revising Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America, is in line with an executive order the president signed on January 20, 2025.
The executive order stated:
“On January 20, 2025, I signed Executive Order 14172 (‘Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness’). Among other actions, that Executive Order required the Secretary of the Interior, acting pursuant to 43 U.S.C. 364 through 364f, to take all appropriate actions to rename as the ‘Gulf of America’ the U.S. Continental Shelf area bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the State of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba in the area formerly named as the Gulf of Mexico.”
As for the second change, while the president’s post suggested the shift from “Airmen” to “Air Mission” was done to avoid to racism, it’s likely he meant sexism. The president believes that the return to the gendered language suggests Delta is abandoning efforts to make language more inclusive of female pilots.
Delta Air Lines denies it was motivated by support for MAGA
Despite the president’s excitement over Delta Air Lines abandoning “woke” principles, Delta has denied that it was motivated by a desire to embrace the president’s policies.
Instead, the airline said it is merely complying with official policy. In a statement to The Post, a Delta spokesperson said:
“Those changes were mandated by the FAA.”
Still, some on the right are likely to continue to consider this another victory in our country’s never-ending culture wars.
